About
Dr. Omkar Sadashiv Rane is an Industrial Designer, Researcher, and Educator. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Savitribai Phule Pune University and his Master’s in Product and Industrial Design from Lovely Professional University. He completed his PhD in Design from World University of Design, where his research focused on traditional wooden toys and craft-based design studies.
He has served as the Head of the Department and Assistant Professor in the Department of Product Design at Vishwakarma University for 2.5 years and as an Assistant Professor at Symbiosis Institute of Design for 3.5 years. Before joining Symbiosis, he was associated with the Institute of Design at Nirma University for 1 year. He has also worked with Fermedicius Labs Pvt. Ltd., where he contributed to the design and development of customer-facing automated retail stores.
His research interests include Indian crafts, Product Design, Sustainable Design, and Design Process. His work mainly focuses on connecting traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design practices.
