Alumni Session on Portfolio Design for Degree Project and International Applications

The Institute of Design, Nirma University, recently hosted an engaging alumni interaction featuring Yashasvi Satodiya and Dev Kapadia on 22.07.2025 and 12.08.2025, respectively. Both are accomplished graduates of the Communication Design programme. The session focused on how to design an impactful portfolio for the Degree Project as well as for applications to institutions abroad.

Drawing from their own academic and professional journeys, Dev and Yashasvi shared practical insights on structuring a portfolio to highlight a designer’s conceptual thinking, process documentation, and final outcomes. They emphasised the importance of clarity, storytelling, and visual coherence in communicating design intent effectively.

The discussion covered strategies for selecting projects, tailoring portfolios for different audiences, and presenting work in both digital and print formats. Special attention was given to understanding what admissions committees and potential mentors look for when evaluating candidates for higher studies abroad.

Students also benefited from real-time feedback on common portfolio pitfalls, tips for showcasing unique skills, and guidance on building a cohesive visual language across projects. The interactive format encouraged questions, making the session a valuable learning experience for those preparing to take their work to the next stage—whether in academia or professional practice.
