Introduction:
On August 4, 2023, a field visit was organised for the students of the Imaging Technique course to Idar, Gujarat. The objective of the visit was to provide students with practical exposure to imaging techniques and enhance their technical skills in a real-world setting.

Itinerary:
Departure: The group departed from the starting point at 7:00 am.
Arrival: The group reached Idar at approximately 10:00 am.
Activities: The field visit included guided tours of imaging facilities, interactive sessions with professionals, and hands-on demonstrations of various imaging techniques.
Departure from Idar: The group departed from Idar at 4:00 pm and returned to the starting point by 7:00 pm.

Highlights:
Specific details related to Imaging techniques and the focus of the course

The Imaging Techniques II course for July-August 2023 was tailored to understand and further apply camera operations and techniques.It was scheduled in three parts:
1) With a series of lectures for an inquiry into looking and seeing, and how to achieve these concepts via various camera operations and effects.
2) Site-visits to three different situations, including an underground monument (stepwell), a marketplace (old city), and an endless vast landscape (Idar), were made to test all the learning from the initial sessions, and to open, and contest the usual perceptions of photography.
3) Students also learned post-processing them for error corrections and understanding the printing, hereby completing a full cycle of observing-understanding-creating their own narratives (through skills or a series of images)-and printing them.

Highlight on equipment: As for the equipment DSLR cameras were used to understand and practice camera operations in detail with an understanding on how it can help to create a better impact of narrative in composition. Photos were then processed through Adobe Lightroom software and printed on photographic papers with RGB printing machines at the color lab.

The field visit proved to be an enriching experience for the students, offering them a deeper understanding of the practical applications of imaging techniques. Some of the key highlights include:
1) Guided Tours: Students had the opportunity to explore advanced imaging laboratories and facilities. They observed state-of-the-art equipment in action and gained insights into the various stages of image acquisition and processing.
2) Interactive Sessions: Professionals in the field conducted informative sessions, sharing their expertise and real-world experiences. Students had the chance to ask questions and engage in discussion on the latest advancements in imaging technology.
3) Hands-On Demonstrations: Practical sessions allowed students to operate imaging equipment under the guidance of experts. These hands-on experiences enabled them to apply theoretical knowledge, troubleshoot technical issues, and understand the importance of precision.
4) Skill Enhancement: The visit provided a platform for students to learn technical skills, including image analysis, interpretation, and quality control. Exposure to different imaging modalities.

Outcomes:
The outcomes of the field visit were extremely positive. Students expressed enthusiasm and gratitude for the opportunity to witness imaging techniques in action and interact with professors.The visit reinforced classroom learning and sparked a greater interest in the subject matter.

The technical skills gained during the visit are expected to significantly contribute to the student’s academic and professional growth. Moreover,  exposure to real-world scenarios will undoubtedly enhance their problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills.

Conclusion:
The field visit to Idar for the Imaging Technique course on August 4, 2023, was a resounding success. It provided students with valuable practical insights, enriched their technical skills, and deepened their understanding of imaging techniques. The positive outcomes of the visit underscore the importance of experiential learning in academic pursuits.
