STTP on 3D Modelling and Additive Manufacturing

From 8th to 20th July 2024, the Institute of Design, Nirma University hosted a specialised Short Term Training Programme (STTP) focused on 3D modelling and additive manufacturing. Designed by internal faculty, the two-week programme aimed to enhance the skills of faculty members and lab technicians in both institutes.

The STTP was divided into two parts. Part A, an eight-day segment, focused on hands-on training in Rhino and Blender software, led by Prof. Kishen Patel and external expert Prof. Ashish Dave. Part B, spanning three days, concentrated on operating Fusion Deposition Machine (FDM) and Stereolithography (SLA) 3D printers, with guidance from Prof. Priyam Parikh and Prof. Pradeep Sahu.

The programme had 19 participants, including faculty members from industrial and communication design, workshop staff, and lab technicians.

The training aimed to equip participants with a solid foundation in 3D printing technology, practical modelling skills, and expertise in handling 3D printers. Additionally, it fostered collaborative learning and encouraged the integration of 3D printing into the curriculum, ultimately enhancing the design education experience.

Outcomes included improved faculty expertise, enriched curricula, and a stronger focus on innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration in design education. The STTP laid the groundwork for developing a comprehensive 3D printing and design programme at IDNU and ITNU.
