Library Committee
The Institute of Design shares a fully air-conditioned library with the Institute of Architecture and Planning. The library houses a collection of journals, reports, textbooks and specialised magazines. Institute of Design faculties, students, researchers, and teachers can access entire research collections from their desktops. Total 1223 volumes including 1189 titles of the books are available in the Institute of Design library.
Details about the Institute of Design library are given below:
- The library acts as a key resource and learning center of the university to meet the information needs of its clientele for the growth and overall development of the university. The library caters to the information needs of more than 350+ users of design institute and also offers membership to alumni and corporate members.
- It is highly sophisticated with state-of-art facilities. It provides online resources as well as digital resources. It has adopted Open Source software KOHA for Integrated Library Management and DSpace to build and update institutional repository. It is also providing remote log-in facility to access electronic resources 24×7 and ensures high network security.
- It is divided into different sections like Lending Section, Reference Section, Circulation Counter, Check Counter, OPAC ? Open Public Access Catalogue Section, Staff Area, Periodical Section, Photocopy Section, etc.
- It offers basic services like library membership, circulation, reading facility, reference service, referral service, inter-library loan facility, photocopy service, and many value-added services like, computerized information search, current awareness services, selective dissemination of information (on-demand service), remote log-in facility and conduct few user education programmes.
- It is open from 11:00 am to 6:15 pm (Monday ? Friday) and 9.00 am to 3.00 pm (1st, 3rd & 5th Saturday)
- What’s the new things we do for students apart from other libraries?
We provide e-library access to the students through a remote login facility. We put up an article of the week to encourage and develop reading habits.
- What kind of book facilities were provided in the pandemic?
NPTEL, Nlist, were available to the students.
- Do we have any online provision for students/faculty?
Yes students/faculty can access all the online journals/database subscribed by Nirma University through remote login facility (https://elibrary.nirmauni.ac.in).
- Is there any statistical data for the library?
There are total 1223 volumes including 1189 titles of the books, 8 periodicals, 1 newspapers, 9 CD/DVDs, 3 photographs album.
- How are we updating our library? Do we have any digital facilities for film or books?
Institute of Design library subscribed 7 online journals. These journals are access from remote login facility. Apart from this Nirma University library has subscribed many resources like Press Readers, SCOPUS, South Asia Archive, JStor, DSpace etc.
