During the Packaging Design Course offered as a part of Communication Design Programme at the Institute of Design, Nirma University, 40 students and Prof Sudhir Kuduchkar, Prof Kanupriya Taneja, and Ms Harjeet Kaur visited Swiss Pac Pvt. Ltd. in Vadodara for the Industry Visit. It was an enlightening experience to learn about different kinds of packaging and printing from this leading company.
Swiss Pac has been a major player in India’s packaging industry for over 30 years, with a strong focus on eco-friendly practices. We had the opportunity to witness various printing techniques such as digital, rotogravure, and static printing, and learn about their custom label production. It was fascinating to see how these methods can accommodate both intricate designs and smaller production runs.
The most interesting part of the trip was observing the entire process of pouch-making from pre-production to post-production. It was evident that Swiss Pac prioritises quality and hygiene, as demonstrated by their certifications such as ISO 9001:2015 and HACCP, which are crucial for pharmaceutical companies that require stringent cleanliness standards.
Two aspects that stood out were the special alert system on their machines, which immediately notifies workers of printing issues for quick resolution. The cleverly designed zip lock packaging ensures minimal food waste and sturdy packaging.
What truly impressed us was Swiss Pac’s commitment to sustainability, particularly in their 100% recyclable, compostable, and biodegradable food packaging materials. Their production facility is well-equipped with different areas for various types of packaging and specialised machines for thorough testing, reflecting their serious approach to sustainability.
With six production facilities globally, Swiss Pac can offer flexibility and support to new businesses, demonstrating their dedication to serving clients worldwide. Their association with renowned brands like Amul and Blue Tokai further underscores their reputation for providing top-notch sustainable packaging solutions.
Our visit to Swiss Pac was not only educational but also inspiring. It significantly changed our perspective on sustainable packaging practices and left us motivated by Swiss Pac’s emphasis on quality, innovation, and environmental stewardship. We will be able to apply the learnings from the course in the ongoing Packaging Design course as well as our future endeavours.
